Therapy Is Proven To Work

Becoming a therapist is a calling; at least for me it was. In fact, I believe that’s the case for most of my colleagues. I sat at my desk mulling over that idea one day. Then questions began firing. Does the average person really understand what therapy is or what happens in therapy? Do perspective clients or people in general really have a clue. Therapy addresses the emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual well-being of the individual.  Let’s be honest. The patchwork of our existence whether it involves relationships, jobs, children, social issues or whatever, there’s bound to be stress, anxiety, depression, grief, problem solving, trauma, and the list goes on where the help of a therapist is needed.

Following up from a previous blog, therapists have several tools available for use in our toolbox that can address these issues and more. I think it’s worth noting also that we, let me speak for Harper Therapy, follow practices that’s proven to work, and operate from the framework of those who are well respected in the mental health community and whose works have high success rates. All these factors also address the question, “What’s So Good About Therapy”.

I closed my eyes and thought about the interventions used. I must say, the relational approach in which the content is presented in session is a therapeutic game changer. It’s the glue that helps the skill/technique stick. Let’s look other tools. Inner peace is gained and a spiritual connection with self is made through meditation, relaxation, the calming effects of eye-movements and identifying core values; you know, those values that keeps you centered and on the right path. What’s So Good About Therapy? You can keep the memories but forget the pain all using a tool called Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). In most cases it’s quick, effective, and done in one session. This is just an appetizer of “What’s So Good About Therapy”, and the exciting thing about it, everybody can eat from the menu. Yes, teens can too.

And yes, there’s something in the toolbox for couples as well. The framework that I talked about earlier included material pertaining to couples. There are numerous advantages to coming to couple’s therapy. I’ll state the obvious, the couple will learn better communication skills, but there will be plenty more. We join through the truth, which means, I’ll respectfully tell you the truth, without taking sides. Neither partner will be made to feel inferior or superior.

Unfortunately, this huge smile can’t be captured through text.
