Holidays Can Make Us Feel Spiritually Imbalanced
The theme for this month has been the impact that the holiday season has on the mind, body, and spirit. This week we are focusing on spirit and how the holiday season can cause an unsettling feeling for some. The holidays are centered around many religious celebrations and for many these celebrations are held near and dear to their hearts. For others it is a reminder of the hurt or pain that they may feel due to past religious experiences. It is important to acknowledge that not everyone has had a good religious experience and may be hurting due to their negative experiences.
If you are religious but find the holidays can become overwhelming, remember the reason for the season. We can all get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season but our why should remain steadfast. If you fit into the space of feeling spiritually unfulfilled or unsettled during the holidays, know that you are not alone. Some feel traumatized by past experiences within religious sectors and are triggered around the holidays. Look for want centers and focus on you as an individual. Does prayer, salat, or meditation help you? Does spending time in nature help you feel at peace? Find the things that help balance you spiritually.
If you are struggling with feeling spiritually imbalanced and you have tried to find your center with little to no long-lasting success, we at Harper Therapy can help. Therapy focused on healing those parts of you that may have experienced trauma can be empowering.
